Rigoberta Bandini Takes Center Stage with ‘Jesucrista Superstar’: A Deep Dive Into Her New Album

Rigoberta Bandini, the alter ego of Paula Ribó, has unleashed her second album, 'Jesucrista Superstar', a contemporary masterpiece that blends 80s and 90s influences with insightful lyrics. This album explores themes of identity, societal pressures, and generational anxieties, making it a potent statement in today's music scene.

Described as an extensive and eclectic work, 'Jesucrista Superstar' delves into the mind of a 33-year-old woman navigating the complexities of modern life. Bandini herself explains that the album captures the constant contradictions between sanity and madness, turning them into a driving force for her music.

One of the defining characteristics of Bandini's work is her use of colloquial language, creating a direct connection with her audience. Her lyrics resonate deeply because they reflect everyday realities that many can relate to. While some themes may initially appeal more to women, her exploration of broader human experiences ensures universal relatability. "I speak from my reality as a woman, but talking about so many things that have nothing to do with gender. More crude and existential things, issues and insecurities that we all go through", the artist affirms.

Paula Ribó reflects on the pressures of social media and consumerism, themes woven into the fabric of 'Jesucrista Superstar'. The album suggests that Bandini embraces her internal contradictions, acknowledging her place within a generation grappling with the same struggles: "It's telling you that she assumes her internal contradiction, that she blames herself for it, but at the same time also understands that she belongs to a generation, to a moment. And she knows how to distance herself from the wound that this contradiction implies". Her goal is to foster a sense of community, reminding listeners that they are not alone in their experiences.

The album features many musical references which are 80s and 90s diverse.

Bandini also addresses the imbalance in festival lineups, where female artists are often underrepresented. She emphasizes the need for festivals to take risks and showcase the talent of diverse artists, not just those who are already established. For Rigoberta: "There is a guarantee that the public has connected with us, but the interesting thing is not that those of us who already work are there. I feel that risks are only taken with boys' bands, but that cannot be: take more risks with everyone".

Bandini’s connection with Barcelona is strong. About this conection, she states: "When I return by plane and through the windows I see Barcelona... I get an emotion...". The artist also tells how happy she is living in the city.

In an interview with Infobae España, Bandini, who is also recognized as Paula Ribó, stated that Jesucrista Superstar saw the light on March 21, 2025. The production & composition was along with Stefano Maccarrone, Esteban Navarro –who she says is her partner and her son’s father–, María Vértiz, Camilo Vélez and with the participation of Alizzz –who produces Amaia or C. Tangana– or Santos y Fluren. As stated by the crew, there is “the most ambitious album in pop made in Spain” that was there since Feb 2021, when El Madrileño was disclosed by C. Tangana.

Beyond her music, Rigoberta Bandini embraces her role as a feminist reference, using her platform to challenge societal norms and empower women: "It may be that everything is tinted with feminism because I cannot stop writing from my feminist perspective towards the world, but there are many other things that must be explored so as not to minimize it in a 'girls' box' and give it value with all the nuances it has".

With 'Jesucrista Superstar', Rigoberta Bandini invites listeners to embrace their complexities, find solace in shared experiences, and challenge the status quo. Will her candid and thought-provoking music inspire a new wave of self-acceptance and social change?
