The Princess Leonor’s Complicated Journey on Elcano: Between Royal Expectations and Maternal Concerns

The presence of Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, on the Juan Sebastián de Elcano school ship has generated a series of controversies and debates within the Casa Real. From alleged health problems to concerns about her social circle, the experience has turned out to be more complex than initially anticipated. Queen Letizia has been particularly vigilant, even requesting detailed reports about her daughter's companions, sparking discomfort within the military.

According to reports, Queen Letizia has expressed concerns about Leonor's well-being during her six-month journey on the Elcano. It seems the princess has suffered from seasickness, vomiting, and even bruising from falls. The situation escalated after photos of Leonor in a bikini in Uruguay were published, triggering a new crisis within Zarzuela. Letizia, who had already expressed reservations about her daughter following in the footsteps of her father in the Navy, even considered bringing her back home early, resulting in heated discussions with King Felipe VI.

Adding to the tension, Letizia reportedly asked the Elcano's commander for a detailed report on her daughter's closest companions for thorough screening. The aim is to assess whether these individuals represent an appropriate influence for the future queen, creating unease among some military officials who see this as an intrusion into the ship's spirit of equality and discipline.

Further reports suggest that Leonor has been struggling to adapt to life on board. She shares a small cabin with three other girls and adheres to strict water rationing for showers. Sources indicate that Leonor, typically meticulous about hygiene, finds it challenging to maintain her usual routine in the demanding ship environment. Some of her companions have even described her as having hygiene issued because she can not take showers as many times as she likes in her normal life.

Amidst these challenges, rumors have surfaced about a possible early departure from the Elcano. The alleged plan is to have Leonor return temporarily for her sister Sofía's 18th birthday on April 29th, with the intention of not having her re-embark. While King Felipe VI understands Letizia's concerns, he worries that withdrawing Leonor prematurely could damage the Crown's image by appearing to cave under media pressure.

The situation surrounding Princess Leonor on the Elcano underscores the challenges of balancing royal duties, personal well-being, and the intense scrutiny of the public eye. Has Letizia's protective approach gone too far, or is she simply acting in the best interest of her daughter? What are your thoughts on the pressures faced by young royals in today's world?
